Social and Health Services in Kymenlaakso (Kymsote)
Kymsote, the federation of municipalities in social and health services in the region of Kymenlaakso in Finland, started its operations on 1 January 2019. The purpose of Kymsote is to arrange and produce equal and easily attainable social and health services to all residents of Kymenlaakso. Kymsote aims at the best customer experience and focuses on preventive, high-quality and cost-effective services. Kymsote is an operator of the future, with its objective being that the people of Kymenlaakso are active, healthy and able to function in various situations in life.
The member municipalities of the federation of municipalities are Hamina, Kotka, Kouvola, Miehikkälä, Pyhtää and Virolahti. Kymsote employs 5,700 professionals in different fields. They serve the 170,000 residents of Kymenlaakso.

The services for children, adolescents and families support the internal resources of families and help parents in their coping, and ensure that children have safe circumstances in which to grow and develop. The services support families so that families in Kymenlaakso would do well and so that families and individuals facing problems could be helped as early as possible.

The services for the aged support aged people so that they could continue to live in their own home safely for as long as possible. The importance of home care and other services provided at the home increases as the person’s own strengths diminish. The welfare of aged residents can be promoted by arranging and developing appropriate services for the aged as part of the scaling of services.

The purpose of social services and services in the life of work directed at adults is to promote and maintain the welfare, health, social security and functioning capability of residents and communities. This can be achieved by arranging and producing appropriate and effective services, by consolidating involvement, by developing the social circumstances and by securing sufficient subsistence security for the residents.

Mental health services and services for intoxicant abusers provide examinations, care and rehabilitation for those needing specialised medical care and social work with intoxicant abusers in Kymenlaakso. The mental health services are intended to support people facing various types of mental problems. The purpose of services for intoxicant abusers is to prevent and treat disadvantages caused by intoxicant abuse.
